So Few Words (love letter) is a song about expressing admiration in more than just the general "I love you". I often use songwriting as a form of self-reflection. As someone who suffers a lot with my mental health, new experiences can be difficult. Depression, anxiety, and ADHD often cloud my judgement - especially when it comes to romantic attachments. I wrote this song during a new romantic experience, so you can imagine the emotional jungle that consumed my mind.
One day in early November of 2021, I sat down to practice for an upcoming gig. Alternatively, I found myself getting lost in this new chord progression I had just come up with on my guitar. In about an hour, that simple chord progression had blossomed into So Few Words. The "love letter" part of the title came shortly after. If you listen closely, the words "love letter" never appear in the lyrics. However, I thought they seemed fitting, considering how personal the song had become.
So Few Words (love letter) is not a song of conventional structure. It isn't built "verse, chorus, verse, chorus" like so many pop songs are, and have been for so long. I tried to break out of this at first, but I soon realized that too much "structure" can take away from all that a songwriter is trying to convey. Not to say that structure isn't important, I just believe there is a time and place.
