about
Coffee with Milk is a somber yet reaffirming song about not wanting to let go of someone you love. It’s the story of going from that selfish mindset of wanting all of that person to yourself, to the grown up realization that there is more to this world than your wants & needs. & that there is a time & place for those things. Realizing that we are all individuals with our own stories to write. It’s a chronicle that’s been told many times before, but seems to remain ageless. Because it’s something I think we’ve all dabbled with in our own lives.
This song is also HEAVILY inspired by one of my favourite video games. For my fellow gamers, I wonder if you can guess which one?
*Here’s a hint: it’s a JRPG that’s gained popularity over the last decade or so…there is also another small hint hidden somewhere in this caption ;)*
For me, what sets this song out from the rest of my music, is simply the fact that I’m proud of it. I initially wrote it with that video game in mind, but I knew I had to do it in a way that would still make it relatable for all the non-gamers out there. I was still pretty new to songwriting at the time so it was quite the test of skill. But it worked out better than I could’ve imagined🤎
lyrics
Hold onto me, my love
I don’t wanna leave alone
Only you
Can rid this filth
And come coffee with milk
It’s 6:48am
You’re talking about leaving again
It’s not what I want
But it’s something I can take
If you must, for goodness sake
Hold this feeling in your crown
Before this place comes crashing down
Before we have to go
Just know what’s going on
You hold my light to tight
In the palm of your hand, so bright
It’s something that I
Cannot understand
But it’s there is the palm of your hand
This is the first upon your lies
and I am trying to decide
But I guess we have to leave
As I am standing in your sheen
But that’s what being a grownup
means
I live for you, I breathe for you
The only thing I’m looking to
This world is only mine
Because you are there inside
Hold onto me, my love
I can’t let ya go alone
Only you
Can love as soft as silk
And as warm as coffee with milk
